Louisville (Small Town Series)

"My story started way back in 1977, as a senior at Hooper Academy. Playing basketball for the Colts (I was more of a bench warmer). The team went to a small town in Barbour County (Louisville, Alabama) to play a game against Dixie Academy. My mom and I went in our family car and, oh, what a shocker this town was. All the stores were closed up and there weren’t even any sidewalks to the stores or through the town. I remember asking my mom, “Who would live in a place like this?” and she just laughed.

At the time my dad was a Methodist pastor in Hope Hull, Alabama, and I had lived in many a small town. I had vowed that after graduation I would NEVER live in a small town again. So, to see this little town was eye opening.

Skip forward to spring 1980... I was working in Union Springs, Alabama (another small town 😂), and friends introduced me to a great man who would turn out to be the LOVE of my life and father of our 2 wonderful guys. We only dated a couple months and got married (when you know it’s meant to be, why wait) in August of 80. Guess where he was from?! You got it…. That little town, LOUISVILLE ALABAMA.

And the funniest part is his family home and his house was next door and across the street from that school I played basketball in. I learned real quick you don’t tell God what you’re never gonna do, because HE will show you who’s in charge.

Skip forward to 2025. Our life has been great in that small town, and it even has sidewalks now. It’s been a wonderful place to raise our boys in and the friends that I have made have become a part of our family. We have been married 45 years come August 2025 and even have 4 very active granddaughters to watch and help raise in this little town. Needless to say, “I would not change a thing”.
