The small community I call my hometown is facing a big fight. Montgomery officials have made it clear they plan to rezone and annex more of Hope Hull’s farmland into industrial sites. That means taking away the land that has fed families for generations, the land that built this community, and the land that gives Hope Hull its heart. And we can’t let that happen.
Hope Hull is more than dirt and fields — it’s where country singer Ella Langley grew up. Without these country roads and the farmland that raised her, we wouldn’t have the stories and songs that carry Alabama’s soul across the nation.
It’s also home to Hooper Academy, founded by champion racehorse owner Fred Hooper. His legacy of world-class horses and deep respect for agriculture helped plant the seeds for a school that still serves this community better than any Montgomery public school. Without farmland, there wouldn’t have been the foundation for this place of learning and pride.
But this fight is bigger than Hope Hull. This is about preserving farmland everywhere. Agriculture is the backbone of survival. Every acre of farmland produces food, fiber, and resources that keep America alive. Farmland does more than feed our communities — it purifies air, absorbs carbon, conserves water, and supports wildlife. Farming anchors communities, fosters independence, and teaches new generations the lost arts of hard work, loyalty, and commitment.
And let’s not forget — farmers feed America. They work sunup to sundown with little pay, no glory, and all grit. They don’t ask for much, only for the chance to keep farming. Without them, there’s no food on the table. Without farmland, there’s no future.
We refuse to sit back and let Hope Hull be swallowed up by concrete. This fight is about preserving our peace, our farms, our history, and our community.
YOU CAN HELP.
We’ve created this fundraiser shirt that embodies the spirit of Hope Hull. All profits from this shirt will go directly toward legal fees to help our town separate from the City of Montgomery — and from a mayor who has openly stated his intent to rezone farmland into industrial sites. Together, we can protect our farms for generations to come.
Show your support. Wear your pride. Stand with Hope Hull.
Because once farmland is gone, it never comes back.
